Aziz Ali (Farhan Ashtar) is a small-time thug working for Jaffar Bhai. He's quick to engage in bloody fights and visits the local charity hospital to fix a deep cut on his face. He meets Dr. Ananya (Mrunal Thkur), who examines the wound and then orders him to leave when she discovers that his hooliganism is responsible.
Ali begins to become interested in boxing and, on another visit to hospital (this time with a respectable ring injury), Ananya encourages Ali to follow the right path and stop engaging in lawless activities. The straight path is not an easy one. Is Aziz going to be able keep his word? First, the good: great acting everywhere! This film is a great example of emoting. Mrunal Thakur deserves a lot of credit - she is a breather. Farhan Akhtar is a hard worker and has built his body to play the role. Farhan Akhtar looks like a boxer, and the boxing scenes seem real.
Mehra's attention and ability to make his characters feel real and believable is another plus. The film maintained a fast pace and kept the audience interested with well-filmed boxing matches. Panga was another film that did this well, even though the sport was kabaddi. The plot feels dated from the 1980s with all its predictable and dramatic elements. Toofaan is a classic story about an underdog - and I love those stories - but it's full of clichés. One temple scene is so ridiculous that Nirupa Ray almost missed it. Another stereotypically golden-hearted hero raises his arm against his wife in one scene. However, he isn't hitting her. He shows no mercy.
