Their followers often overlook the irony of spiritual leaders preaching a higher life free from worldly pleasures while enjoying a life of luxury with supercars and private islands. Many fall prey to their shallow preachings that target the many vulnerabilities of their listeners.
Trance is directed by Anwar Rasheed and tells the story of the careful corporate strategy that went into making Pastor Joshua Carlton (Fahadh Faasil), a god figure who happens to be an atheist but has many vulnerabilities that are exploited in the hands of two shadowy businessmen, Gautham Menon (Gautham Vinod) and Chemban Vinod (Chemban Vinod). Prior to being thrust into the limelight in this new avatar as Pastor, Viju Prasad was an aspiring motivational speaker who struggled to rise while dealing with personal tragedies.
The film's deeper meaning is that it also focuses on his mental journey. He oscillates between emotional troughs and drug-induced highs, much like the Pastor's naive followers. The atheist pastor seems convinced of his healing abilities at times.
