Netflix's Haseen Dilruba features Rani (Taapsee Pantnu), who marries Mild-mannered Engineer Rishabh. Rani and Rishu cannot be happy together, so Rishu requests Rani to leave. Rani, however, is the prime suspect in his death.
Partly inspired by Roald Dahl’s short story “Lamb To the Slaughter”, but even that intriguing twist is lost in the chaos that is this movie. This ridiculous plot is also interwoven with absurd ideas of romance and sudden, unexplainable personality shifts. Rani's character is not perfect, but it is entertaining. She is beautiful and sharp-witted. Her mother-in-law exhorts Rani to be the susheel bahu she promised. Rishu's character is also unrealistic and swings wildly from mild-mannered and tolerable to psychotic, abusive.
Haseen Dilruba is a pulpy C-grade movie with over-the top characters. Although the film's actors are good, they are hindered by the unlogically constructed characters. Director Vineel Matthew directed Hasee Toh Phasee. While that film won't win any awards, it is better than Haseen Daruba. Although the plot of Haseen Diruba is appealing, the movie's poor execution and lack of logic and reasoning render it a disaster. This film will not be saved by its reliable actors.
