The Witches: The Witches Full Movie Review:
After the tragic death of both parents due to a tragic crash in a car, a little Hero Boy (Jahzir Kadeem Bruno) is adopted by his maternal grandma (Octavia Spencer) who lives in the dusty old town in Alabama. "I'm sorry about you but I'm not sorry for the way you've been treated,' his grandma is able to tell him, encouraging him to live his life once more. Soon, her charismatic energy and affection helps to pull Hero Boy out of his sadness. Hero Boy even gets the pet mouse, and calls it Daisy. One day, Hero Boy encounters a strange woman who offers him a treat however he sees the snake emerging from her clothing. The kid is scared and rushes to his grandmother and she later tells her that the lady is an actual witch. She recounts her own experience with a witch during her youth. The incident shocked her as the witch turned her friend who was the best of them into chicken. In fear of the worst for her son, she takes away to the most luxurious hotels in the city. She believes that witches only target the weakest and vulnerable children. To their utter surprise, a huge group of witches, led by Grand High Witch (Anne Hathaway) is brought to the same hotel to attend an annual gathering. They are disguised as wealthy, glamorous ladies, the witches are on a quest to eradicate all children of the earth by changing the children into mouse.
It is told like a story of folklore, in Chris Rock's soothing voice The Witches' story quickly enters the action. Director and co-writer Robert Zemeckis keeps his retelling true to the original story. He enhances it by adding a plethora of thrilling adventures as well as slick animation. If you've not watched the book or read the original version from 1990 it's possible that you'll find the plot to be quite frightful and full of scary unexpected surprises. Particularly, the lengthy scene in which The Grand High Witch speaks to her subordinates and meets children to the first time within the hall.
