Love Aaj Kal: Love Aaj Kal Full Movie Review:
Director-writer Imtiaz Ali narrates the 2020 "Love Aaj Kal" in the same style as his highly successful directorial in 2009 with the same title. But, the love stories are new and have a various conflicts that change with the passage of the passage of time. Ali is able to make it relevant by highlighting the difference between the old-fashioned small town love story that was easy but difficult in comparison to the modern love that is complicated and flawed.
Ali's main character Zoe is the perfect example of the former. A complicated character, she has a five-year plan in place to enjoy herself and start her own event management business and then'settles down' with a long-term relationship. Although Sara Ali Khan is the appropriate stage to portray Zoe but she's not capable of convincingly capturing the complexity of her fiery and very independent character. Sara is a formidable presence on the screen and looks stunning but her performance fails to exactly make you want to root for Zoe. Kartik Aaryan is great as the charming Raghu who transforms from a shy lovelorn small-towner to the big-city Casanova is convincing. As Veer Aaryan, however, Kartik isn't able to be more than a tepidly following around the woman of his life and stay there for her. However, this is Randeep Hooda, who leaves an impression that lasts even after little screen time. With a moustache that is a handlebar and crisp linen shirts, the under-appreciated actor is a dapper looker. He's a perfect fit to play the character that's exactly like Rishi Kapoor's character from the original. Actually, it's his story that is more engaging, relatable and enjoyable. Ali makes use of vibrant tones and stunning backgrounds to recreate Raghu's love tale with Leena performed by debutante Arushi Sharma, who does it very well. The flashback narrative is cut off too many times to fit the film's non-linear story. Although the film's emotional narrative is a bit casual in its style but there aren't many gentle moments.
