Johaar: Johaar Full Movie Review:
A debutant director like Teja Marni to explore an issue that is relevant and political and then weave five diverse stories in one (almost) seamless film is an impressive move. In the film Johaar the director displays his abilities to create a political drama as well as a love story or sports drama, and even romantic tales about parents or parents as well as their kids.
The Andhra Pradesh's CM Achuta Ramayya recently died, leaving the son of his (Chaitanya Krishna) to take over the mantle. Instead to keep his dad's portrait as clean and tidy even after his demise, he plans to construct the largest statue in the world (sounds similar to what you've heard?) to remind everyone of the fact that his late CM is the equivalent of God. To remind people that the late CM is God. Amalapadu, Srikakulam district, Ganga (Eshwari Rao) as well as her child Chinni grieve, since they've lost an important person to Uddanam kidney condition. The main character in Varanasi are a young chai walla Siddhu (Ankith Koyya) longing for the daughter of the brothel madam Jyothi (Esther anil). Bose (Subhalekha Sudhakar) manages a home for abandoned children in Rayalaseema however, she has little money to repair the roof of their home. Street actor (Naina Ganguly) from Visakhapatnam is told that she is able to dream big, and may even be able to participate in the Olympics. The impact of one man's choice on numerous lives is the story Johaaris about.
History is a collection of falsehoods that are agreed on is the tagline for the film. The poster itself gave a hint of what the story might actually be about. To reveal more details about the collection would be an offense to the intricate story Teja Marni weaves. He keeps the viewer engaged and interested immediately. Marni takes his time to present each character and their situation, often weaving songs written by Priyadarshan to create the right atmosphere (cue: Idi Varanasi). The cinematography that is lush by Jagadeesh Cheekati is also a big help.
The only part that feels off-putting, because of the plot and the way Naina Ganguly portrays her character and her peculiar accent, is a major detriment to the flow of a smooth film. It's not the heft one would expect from. Despite having established actors like Subhalekha Sudhakar as well as Eshwari Rao, who are in charge of some segments, young actors like Ankith Koyya (Aswathama, Majili) and Esther Anil (Drushyam) manage to take on their roles with incredible ease. Subhalekha Sudhakar is a character who used to be an agent of the Bose regiment. She gives you the impression that the children would be orphans again when something takes place to him. Eshwari Rao reveals the heartbreaking despair of a mother who is battling against the odds to save her sole child to allow her to be a successful adult with the best possible future. Ankith Koyya, previously portrayed as psychopath, is shown his more gentle aspect as a young boy who is just looking for his crush to pay attention to his presence and believes that the world is a happy family. Esther Anil brings some much-needed depth to the sweet and saccharine story as a girl who is desperate to get away from her mother's grip prior to selling her virginity. Chaitanya is also a great job as the politician who is distracted by ambition, one who is unable to see the consequences of his decisions.
