Hit: The First Case: Hit: The First Case Full Movie Review:
It is clear that Dr Sailesh Kolanu wants HIT to become a franchise. This is evident when he doesn't seem to be in any hurry to reveal much about his characters. It's a difficult genre to manage, but the director does it admirably with few drawbacks. It's remarkable how viewers are pushed into Vikram's world from the beginning, especially when it is so oppressive and full of pain.
Her parents worry beyond their minds when a little girl is reported missing from Outer Ring Road. Murli Sharma, a police officer who left her at the same place where she was last seen, is the last to see her. He assures her that help is on its way. Vikram, another cop, is on a needed leave and trying to deal with the grief in his life when he gets a distressing phone call. The tale of Vikram's embarrassment in the case about the missing girl and the connection it has to the call he received tells the story.
Vikram works in the HIT department against the wishes of his therapist, Neha (Ruhani) Sharma. Because of the nature of his job, Vikram is prone to panic attacks. He can black out occasionally and be paranoid about his suspects running from him. Fire in any form or shape seems to be a major trigger. His shabby appearance, and his short temper are a result of a previous trauma. He has a sharp sense of smell and deductive skills which make him a good employee. However, it is unclear if his flaws will ever allow him to solve cases peacefully.
The film's director does a great job in letting us learn enough about Vikram’s trauma to be able to care for him and keep our attention throughout. Through flashbacks of his memories, we see bits and pieces of Vikram's love for Neha as well as the deep-seated pain he feels. This narrative is bold considering that it may not be a good fit for all viewers. The film is slow to reach the end and, while it is admirable that you are not able to guess what it will be, it doesn't work because the ending is so rushed. It's worth watching on-screen, so it's best to not say too much about the plot.
Vivek Sagar and S Mani Kandan, Garry BH, should also be commended for their outstanding work in setting up Vikram's environment. The music, cinematography, and editing remain true to the genre, conveying the feeling of desperation, pain, and suffocation through sound and visuals. It is amazing how detailed some scenes are. The same goes for the way they are shot. They are subtle without being too obvious. It also defies stereotypes in subtle ways.
Vishwak Sen's performance, however, doesn't always make the desired impact. It is difficult to understand his dialogue delivery, particularly when it involves Ruhani. He does a great job in the moments where he is being funny and sarcastic, such as when he calls out a professor of moral policing. He can be inconsistent in his acting, appearing off in some scenes while he is flawless in others. There seems to not be a middle ground when it comes down to it. Ruhani Sharma does surprisingly well in the few scenes that she has. Hari Teja shines. Murli Sharma is a good actor with the material he has.
