Cecilia's (Elisabeth Moss) credibility begins to fall apart as she tries to prove that she is being pursued by a person who she is the only one to see.
Invisible Man Review: Cecilia (Elisabeth Moss) is fed up with the unkind relationship with highly-educated and wealthy science guru Adrian (Oliver Jackson-Cohen). In the evening she decides to walk away from her boyfriend and flees with the assistance of the twin sister Emily (Harriet Dyer) to live with their childhood best friend James (Aldis Hodge) and his teenage daughter Sydney (Storm Reid). After her psychopath ex was discovered deceased, Cecilia thinks that an unseen man may be looking for her. She is concerned that she's losing her senses as she sees things no one else is able to see.
A reboot of the 'The Invisible Man' film series basing it on the sci-fi book written by H. G. Wells It is immediately apparent that this film doesn't take any shortcuts. The first two scenes are a slow buildup making it clear the reason Cecilia was so scared of Adrian. The dialogue also gives us important details that aren't required for long flashbacks or exposition. There aren't any fake-outs or dream sequences and no other ploys for narrative that thrillers use. These jump-scares are earned, and they come from nowhere just as they ought to be. There's a lot happening within the midst of your eyes however, instead of showing you where to look the director and writer Leigh Whannell uses intelligent framing to make room for the individual who's not in the room. Perhaps he is? The question remains throughout the film and won't stop until the final scene. Whannell is also skilled at fight scenes So when the film does ramp the action choreography and camera work are simple to follow and they add to the suspenseful story rather than detracting from it.
The emotional power is due to an outstanding acting performance from Elisabeth Moss who captures Cecilia's experience of being a woman trying to escape her abusive partner. Naturally, this impacts her ability to establish positive relationships with her family and friends and Moss does a great job of transferring Cecilia's anxiety and frustration to the viewer. The cast also performs well in their roles, however this is Moss her film through and through. The film also tackles family violence as well as the devastating effect it can have on the victims. The film's overall mood is a threatening score written by Benjamin Wallfisch. One of the few psychological horror thrillers that are not accompanied with a warning to trigger "The Invisible Man" is a sly satire of genre conventions that keep you on your shoulder long after the credits end.
