FAST AND FURIOUS 9 tells the story about Dominic Toretto, his gang and their struggle against Dom's brother. The film opens in 1989. Jack Toretto, Dominic Toretto's father (Vinnie Bennett), is a racer who was killed in an accident while racing. Dominic is quickly arrested for assaulting Jack Toretto (J D Pardo), a rival racer involved in the fatal accident that led to Jack's death. Dominic learns from jail that Jack's brother Jakob (Finn Cole), was responsible for Jack's death and that he is now his own responsibility. Dominic releases Jakob from jail and challenges him in a race. Jakob must leave the town if he loses. Jakob is defeated by Dominic and he runs away. Today, Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), Dominic (Vin Diesel) and their son Brian (Brian) live a quiet life in a remote area. Letty and Dominic miss the excitement of their childhood. Their gang members, Tej Parker (Chris “Ludacris” Bridges), Roman Pearce ("Tyrese Gibson") and Ramsey (Nathalie Emanuel) will eventually come to visit them. Dominic and Letty are informed by them that the plane carrying Cipher (Charlize Thoron) was attacked by rogue elements, which led to it collapsing in Montequinto. Dominic and Letty are joined by them in searching for the crash site. They find part of an Ares-shaped device in the wrecked aeroplane. However, they are unsure what it is. They are then attacked by a private armoury led by Jakob (John Cena). Jakob robs them of the devise and then flees. Dominic and his gang discover that Jakob had stolen one half of Ares. They will be able hack into any computer-controlled weapon system once they have both Ares parts. Jakob, who is heading to Edinburgh, is the other half of Ares. Dominic and his gang also follow their lead. They also discover that Han Lue, their gang member (Sung Kang), is somehow linked with Ares. The rest of the film is about what happens next.
